Year 2025 opens with great news for Alpine Skiing fans with the FIS deciding to recover, over the Sestriere weekend, one of the two Women’s Giant Slalom events cancelled due to lack of snow in Mont-Tremblant, Canada. Therefore, on Friday 21 February 2025, the White Circus athletes will be on the Giovanni Alberto Agnelli Kandahar in Sestriere track recovering a Giant Slalom.
“When FIS proposed to us the recovery of one of the two cancelled Giants in Canada -explains Gualtiero Brasso, President of the Organising Committee – I cannot hide the fact that our first reaction has been of pride for the trust in our Organising Committee, which has been earned in the field over the years. Immediately after that we set to work on all the necessary evaluations, together with our staff and partners, to understand how to integrate and manage the commitment to double the Giant event. At the end of the verifications, we accepted the FIS request and immediately began working to return the trust placed in us. Decisive has been the support we have received from the FISI, which, from the very first moment, has supported the request, making itself available to speed up the timetable in order to achieve this important goal. The same from the Sestriere Municipality, from which we received great enthusiasm and support. Now we are working with the aim of giving all the fans and athletes a truly unforgettable three days of skiing.”
“We were really pleasantly surprised and delighted – adds Gianni Poncet, Mayor of Sestriere – by this opportunity to double the Giant Slalom in Sestriere, increasing the number of race days from two to three. When Gualtiero Brasso contacted us to inform about the opportunity, we immediately put ourselves at the disposal of the Organising Committee to write another page of history for our municipality, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year”.
The programme of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Sestriere on 22nd and 23rd February remains unchanged, with the best athletes again competing in the Giant Slalom on Saturday 22nd and the Slalom on Sunday 23rd. Two to three days absolutely not to be missed in Sestriere, on the snows of the Vialattea, to get your adrenalin pumping and cheer on the competing athletes.
